Alte Feste 2026
Film, 4K, 25min
The Old Fortress in Windhoek is the first colonial building in Namibia’s capital. It served as the headquarters of the former German colony of “South West Africa.” The film follows the restoration of the building, which is intended to be used as a museum in the future. It is a controversial site in the centre of the capital. Decora, a company shaped by descendants of Germans, is restoring the fortress, while workers from the township carry out the plans. The construction site reflects the social structure of present-day Namibia. The architect, the foreman and the workers interpret the significance of the space differently. While everyone is hoping for a positive outcome, a new life for the building and a better future, the layers of the past are being uncovered. As material more than 130 years old comes together with the work of today.
